I keep a journal, and I love coming across entries that still make me laugh out loud years later.
Here are six:

Caitlyn (4) asked from the backseat today, “Is Abraham Lincoln another name for Jesus Christ?” I answered her with a straight face that it wasn’t. She came right back with, “Then what does Abraham Lincoln mean?” She seemed satisfied when I told her he was a different person altogether. I recently checked out a book on Abraham Lincoln from the library and I’m sure that’s where her question came from. My question, though, is how did she read that whole book and think he was Jesus Christ?
Maybe she just saw the beard on the cover and made some assumptions…

5 year old Caitlyn walked into the kitchen tonight and casually commented, “I’ll be damned.” Ha! She got it from a book apparently? It was all I could do not to bust up laughing because she had no clue it was an inappropriate thing to say.

Daniel (3) was counting up the boys in our family, “One, two! Me and Daddy.” and the girls, “One, two, three! Kenzie and Caitlyn and Mama.”
I added, “What about Josie? She’s a girl too.” and he said dismissively, “No, she’s a cousin.” Ha!

Daniel gets upset every time I say I’m giving someone grace. He thinks I’m saying “grapes” and he wants some!

Today as we were in the parking lot after gymnastics, I was nursing Josie in the car and we heard a bit of a crash outside, like someone closing a dumpster lid. Caitlyn calmly asked, “Oh, was that gymnastics blowing up? I hope not.”

Daniel reached the Number Bonds topic in his math book, in which he is to learn how to tell “number stories” such as, “There are 5 children. 2 are smiling, 3 are not.” I ran through a few examples with him and then I stepped away to take care of Josie leaving him to “think up some stories” to describe the next picture on the page. Boy, he thought up a few doozies! None had to do with numbers though. I guess I should have been more specific. 😉
